Besides technology, sustainability has emerged as one of the most profound societal trends of our time. The finance and insurance sectors have not been isolated from this development, and many institutions are now accounting for sustainability in their decision making. At the heart of this effort is the idea of incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into investment decisions.

 

Objective

Building on industry practice and academic insights, this Master Class will provide a high-level overview of the fundamental principles of ESG investing in liquid asset classes, such as listed equities. The Master Class will discuss currently available data and implementation approaches and discuss both opportunities and shortcomings of current practice. Overall, the master class aims to equip banking and finance professionals with up to date and relevant high-level knowledge about ESG investing. Specific learning objectives are:

  • Becoming familiar with basic ESG investing terminology, different ESG measurement methods and implementation approaches

  • Understanding the risk/return implications of ESG implementation

  • Being able to identify and discuss current shortcomings/challenges relating to available ESG data and ESG implementation approaches
